If you’re like most enterprises, you have a variety of Office products floating around. Office 2010 and 2013 can be a bit of a pain sometimes to register correctly. These tips will help you out.

How to Activate Microsoft Office 2010 and Office 2013

With any Microsoft Office application open:

  1. Click File Menu
  2. Click Help
  3. On right side, look for Product Activated or similar text
  4. If you see Activate Product Key in the Help menu then click on it
  5. Follow the steps in wizard until complete
    • You will need an Internet connection for this

How to Change a Product Key in Microsoft Office 2010 and Office 2013

Quick Category View

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs and Features
  3. Click the Microsoft Office application
  4. Right-click on the application and click on Change
  5. Select Enter a Product Key and supply your 25-digit license key to activate

Detailed List View

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click on Programs
  3. Click on Uninstall A Program
  4. Click the Microsoft Office application
  5. Right-click on the application and click on Change
  6. Select Enter a Product Key and supply your 25-digit license key to activate

Repair Option

Instead of selecting Change, select Repair installation. You may be asked to re-enter your product key.

Activation error: “Sorry, we are having some temporary server issues.”

There are boxes to click Try again and Cancel. Selecting Try again never seems to work. Instead, try this:

  1. Open registry editor (regedit.exe)
  2. Find HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Internet\WebServiceCache\AllUsers\office15client.microsoft.com
  3. Delete all the subfolders of the … \office15client.microsoft.com folder.

This should immediately fix the problem.

Note: It would be a good idea to back up your registry before you modify anything.
