As test day for the Security+ SY0-401 approaches, I thought it would be good to include a few cloud computing service terms for review.
Table of Contents
PaaS – Platform as a Service
- This service is for users who want some control in their hosting or development
- Reduces the need for staff to worry about full infrastructure worries
- It could be niche but in the very least it is a platform that is optimized to work with specific setups
- Platform delivers servers, operating systems, storage, networks, and the like
- Think of this as middleware
IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service
- This service is for users who want complete control in their hosting or development
- Reduces cost of having on premises hardware, SLA and BC responsibilities, and vendor support contracts
- Infrastructure delivers full use of provisioned hardware, servers, storage, networks, and the like for staff
- Third party is often in charge of routine maintenance and software patching though
SaaS – Software as a Service
- This service is for users who do not need a setup for hosting and development
- Reduces time and operation cost
- On-demand software that’s centrally hosted and easily managed on a subscription
- The Adobe suite is kind of like this, even though there is software that runs locally on your computer
- Other popular software includes email service providers and MMOs games
Conclusion
That’s it for cloud computing service terms. Let me know what else you needed to learn on this topic.
